“She looks at the transporter with sadness in her eyes every time.”
Around two years ago, Anna was found left in a dumpster with her mother and brother. A sweet, gorgeous, all-black pit bull, her rescuers at Strong Paws Rescue hoped she’d be adopted quickly — but unfortunately, she’s still waiting for her forever home.

“Because of her breed and color, she’s only had one application, even though she’s an amazing dog,” Chelsea Dom of Strong Paws Rescue told The Dodo. “Her mom and brother are fawn in color and were quickly adopted.”
Since she was rescued, Anna has been moved from foster home to foster home, but none of them have been able to keep her long-term. She’s now been in eight different foster homes — and each time she has to leave, it breaks her heart a little more.

“Anna’s last two moves were especially hard — she actually tried to run back inside both foster homes because she knew she was about to leave again,” Dom said. “She looks at the transporter with sadness in her eyes every time. Last time she buried her muzzle into the volunteer’s arm as though she was seeking comfort when they were driving to her next foster placement.”

Unfortunately, black shelter pets are often harder to place, and Anna has been no exception. The constant moving around has made her slow to warm up to new people — but after a little while, she completely transforms into the sweetest pup.

“Once she opens up to you, she is a complete wiggle butt,” Meagan Kobielski, executive director and founder of Strong Paws Rescue, told The Dodo.
While Anna can’t live with cats, she loves other friendly, playful dogs. She would do best in a female-only household with no young kids. Otherwise, she just wants to be loved.

“We really want to find her a permanent home, where she can finally feel safe, settled and loved for good,” Dom said.
