A team of trash collectors were on their route and stopped outside a home in Hampshire, England. They went to grab a bin to empty it — and immediately stopped. Resting on top of a piece of cardboard at the top of the bin was a tiny family.

The family was made up of five kittens, barely a week old. The team immediately stopped what they were doing, carefully collected the sweet family and brought them straight to a nearby vet, who promptly contacted the RSPCA for help.
“It is frightening to think what could have happened to these young kittens had they not been spotted by the refuse collectors,” Leanna Hone, an inspector with the RSPCA, said in a press release.

Thankfully, the kittens were totally fine even after their ordeal and are now in the care of the RSPCA’s Hampshire and Surrey Border Branch. Their rescuers decided to name them Morel, Magpie, Molly, Penny and Saffron.
“All the kittens are doing well and their eyes are opening,” Hone said. “They were given a feed and a [clean-up] and I took them to our local branch, who have now placed them with one of their cat fosterers.”

The RSPCA is now looking into how the kittens ended up there and are appealing to the public for any information they may have.
“The house holder who owned the bin was horrified when they heard these kittens had been placed in it outside their home,” Hone said.
For now, everyone is just grateful that the kittens are safe and getting stronger every day.
