“I’m gonna hold onto her for a little bit.”
Truck driver and TikTok user Triune Blades was driving down a rural road when he saw someone tiny dart across the road and into some nearby grass. He immediately slammed on the brakes, pulled over and got out to investigate. He peered into the grass — and a tiny kitten emerged, yelling at him for help.
The kitten, later named Cali, walked right up to her rescuer and leapt into his arms. He looked around for a mama cat or other kittens but found none, and also didn’t see anywhere she could have wandered away from.
“I don’t see any farms,” Blades said in a video on TikTok. “There’s none down there. There’s not a farm until three miles down that way.”
Meanwhile, Cali continued to yell while nestled in his arms — and he decided the only thing to do was take her with him.
“I’m gonna hold onto her for a little bit,” Blades said. “I drive this route, so maybe I’ll ask somebody at the next farm.”
As soon as they were in the truck, Cali hopped right up onto her rescuer’s shoulder and stayed there.
“We’re safe and sound in the truck,” Blades wrote on TikTok. “She seems to want human contact, but she’s still so young that I can tell she’s also wanting her mama.”
After lots of meowing and shoulder climbing, Cali fell asleep in her rescuer’s backpack, all warm and tired out. Unfortunately, he was never able to figure out where she came from — so he decided to take her home with him instead.
The truck driver and his family already had another calico cat at home, so he figured Cali would fit right in. He was right, of course, and now Cali is a beloved member of the family.
“Cali is loving the snuggles with her new humans AND her new pupper buddy, Chester,” Blades wrote. “She’s fit in perfectly already. We all love her so much.”
