Now they’re looking for a foster home.
When the pastor at a local church in Kentucky arrived for the evening service, he noticed a box sitting on the church steps. There appeared to be something written on the side — and as he got closer, he realized the box was full of furry babies.

Inside the box were six newborn puppies, and the note on the box said, “Puppies free to a good home. Mixed with blue nose pit bull and breed of the father is unknown.” Unfortunately, that was all the information the pastor had about the puppies he’d found. He knew they needed help, so he contacted Powell County Animal Shelter.

“It was dark and going to be a very cold night,” Teresa Stidham of Powell County Animal Shelter told The Dodo. “The puppies looked to be in good condition and seemed to be freshly taken from their momma.”

The puppies went to a temporary foster home for a few days before heading back to the shelter. Their rescuers are now searching for a longer-term foster home for them, but it’s hard to find someone who will take in six tiny puppies. For now, though, the shelter is doing everything they can to make sure the pups grow up big and strong.
“We feel they would fare better with more attention than we can provide,” Stidham said.

The shelter is still searching for whoever abandoned the pups in hopes of reuniting them with their mom. Until then, they’re getting lots of love and attention, out of the cold and in the care of people who love them.
