“We did everything we could to find her.”
In November of 2017, Daisy was playing in her family’s yard when a car of strangers pulled up, put her in their truck and drove away. Daisy’s family was beyond heartbroken and did everything they could think of to try and find her. The story even made the news, but nothing worked.
As the years went on, the chances seemed slim that Daisy would ever find her way home again. Still, her family never gave up hope.

“Not knowing if she was safe or if she was loved was awful for us, and we did everything we could to find her, including big appeals on social media, which went across the world,” Rita Potter, Daisy’s mom, told the RSPCA in a press release. “We kept a photograph on the mantlepiece and would look at it every day thinking of her and where she might be.”
Knowing Daisy would be a senior pup now, they started to wonder if she had passed away already. Then, the RSPCA called with the most unbelievable and wonderful news: Daisy had been found.

Daisy was discovered by RSPCA Inspector Kim Walters during a routine investigation. Her owner claimed he’d only had Daisy for a couple of years and was unable to afford her medical care, and willingly signed her into the care of the RSPCA. After scanning her microchip, Daisy’s rescuers discovered her true identity and immediately contacted her family to give them the news they’d been waiting eight long years for.

“I contacted them and they were obviously shocked — but elated at the same time,” Walters said in a press release. “They told me about all the efforts that they had gone to great lengths to try and find her and how devastated they were when she was taken from them. I was a bit choked [up] from listening to them and clearly how much they loved her, so it was great telling them that we could get her back home soon once we had made sure she was fit enough to travel, and we had arrangements in place for the four-hour journey to take place.”

It appeared that poor Daisy had been used for backyard breeding and was also incredibly dirty, seemingly not having been groomed in several years. As soon as she had been cleaned up, checked over and cleared to travel, her rescuers finally drove her home — where her entire extended family was waiting to greet her with open arms.

As soon as Daisy hopped out of the car, her tail started wagging uncontrollably and her nose sniffed furiously. She remembered where she came from and knew she was home. Her family surrounded her and immediately began showering her with all the love she’d been missing over the years, and she melted into her mom’s embrace. They never forgot her, and, clearly, she never forgot them either.

Daisy is now home and settling in. She’s 13 years old now, but no matter how much time she has left, her family is comforted knowing that she’ll be safe and loved with them for the rest of her life.
