“I thought a couple of them were actually going to take him too …”
Gallagher and his six siblings had a rough start after being born behind a dumpster at an apartment complex. His entire family was rescued by Rutherford County Cat Rescue and taken to Catfeine Cat Cafe, where their life began anew as they awaited their forever families.
From the moment he arrived, it was clear that Gallagher had the most personality out of all of his siblings, and his rescuers assumed he’d be adopted quickly.

“He is a sweet and funny boy,” Taura Byrd, owner of Catfeine Cat Cafe, told The Dodo. “He loves to climb and play on our wall boxes. He’s famous for hanging out on our bridge and pulling the fishing pole toys across the floor and climbing up the boxes with it. He is always the first to make friends with the new kitty arrivals.”

Gallagher let his personality shine through with every person he met, and everyone who came through the cafe fell in love with him — but for some reason, no one wanted to adopt him. After all of his siblings had gone off to their forever homes, sweet Gallagher was still waiting. Soon, he started getting impatient and tried to take matters into his own paws.

“After his siblings were adopted and then a few other of his closest friends, we started to notice that he was ready for his turn,” Byrd said. “He’s always been a happy boy at the cafe, but in the last month, he started climbing in all the carriers of the kitties that were being adopted. To be honest, it broke our hearts because he deserves his forever home too! And none of us could understand why he kept being overlooked.”

Everyone who knew Gallagher was so sad for him. He knew that the carrier symbolized getting a forever home, but climbing into them never had the same result for him as it did for the other cats.
“I thought a couple of them were actually going to take him too because it was sad to take him out of it and leave him there,” Byrd said.

Byrd ended up getting Gallagher his own carrier to hang out in while he continued to wait, and that worked for a little while, but it just wasn’t the same.
“He was really excited about it for a bit, but he’s too smart and eventually caught on,” Byrd said.
Everyone was rooting for Gallagher — and finally, his day arrived. After posting about Gallagher’s plight, his forever family found him, and he got to climb into a carrier meant to take him off to his happily-ever-after.

It was hard for Gallagher to watch all of his friends get adopted while he got left behind. It may have taken him a little longer, but he’s finally living his dream.
