“Seeing that transformation makes every bit of the effort worth it.”
When Adri Rachelle spotted a brown animal running in front of her car, the stunned animal lover quickly hit the brakes.
She soon eyed the culprit — a terrified little beagle who needed help.
Rachelle took the pup home and made sure she was comfortable. Finally safe, the dog, named Mocha, anxiously clung to walls and corners, too scared to move an inch.

“She didn’t even wanna look you in the eye,” Rachelle said in a video for The Dodo.

Rachelle felt heartbroken for the dog. She knew it would take patience and time before Mocha learned to trust again.
“It was pretty clear to us from the start that she wasn’t used to being inside a house,” Rachelle said.
With help from some tasty treats, Mocha slowly began showing her friendly side.

But it turned out what Mocha really needed was support from some fellow furry friends.
“After the first few days, we started letting her go outside with our other dogs,” Rachelle said. “And I think that’s what really made a difference.”
Emboldened by her new dog siblings, Mocha continued coming out of her shell.
“Since then, we’ve made huge progress,” Rachelle said. “She’ll climb in my lap, and she’ll let me pet her all over and everything.”

Rachelle is so glad she caught Mocha running through the street that day and did what it took to make her feel loved.
“Seeing that transformation makes every bit of the effort worth it,” she said.
